Details
Free devices: --available
devices list --available asks the portal which devices no experiment currently holds. This is the one device command that opens no session to an experiment, so it works before you have one. It hides devices that are already allocated, including the ones your own experiment holds.

If you belong to several IoT projects, pass --project to pick one (neuiot for most researchers).
Devices in your experiment
Without --available, the command opens a session to the experiment and names the devices it is about:

Examples
mrg-iot devices list --available # everything free
mrg-iot devices list --available -p neuiot # one project only
mrg-iot devices list -e myexp # the devices myexp holds
